Middle School Lights

On Tuesday, January 19th, 2011, the North Smithfield Town Council listened to differing parties about the necessity of the lights being on at night in the Middle School.

They heard from residents and taxpayers who believe that the lights burning all night are a waste of tax dollars and not required by code.

They also heard from the School Building Committee, who was charged with oversight of the construction.

The Committee explained the rational for the lights to be left on and the costs associated.

They also offered other options and costs to turn off all the lights or selected ones. The Council ultimately voted unanimously to leave the lights on twenty four hours a day for safety and security reasons.
